For institutions and large research projects where own branding is required, we offer a fully hosted institutional instance with the autonomy to configure the environment to your own requirements.

A Project Folder Owner is responsible for managing and creating folder structures, user access, and determining quotas within his/her allocated environment.

For smaller research projects and individual researchers the community instance (https://researchdrive.surfsara.nl/) is available.

Institutional instance

You can request your local Project Folder Owner or research supporter (library, ICT) to create an account for you. They're able to invite you for an account via the Research Drive Dashboard.

If you do not know whether your institution offers Research Drive, look up here.

Community instance

To obtain an account for the community instance of Research Drive, please send a request to helpdesk@surfsara.nl and mention your name, institute and the name of your research project that is using the community instance of Research Drive.

External partners

If you are collaborating in a research project and an external partner (no institutional account), then ask the principal investigator or Project Folder Owner of your research project.

Storage quota

A new user doesn't get a personal storage quota by default. A storage quota means, that a user cannot store any files yet, as they have no disk space assigned to them personally.
For more info about a personal storage quota, see the Research Drive Dashboard documentation.

Microsoft Internet Explorer

The Microsoft Internet Explorer is not supported for Research Drive.
If you still use Internet Explorer and want to use Research Drive, you will need to use a different browser.
The Microsoft Edge, Firefox, Chrome, Safari and Opera browsers are supported.
