Introduction

An eduID supports lifelong learning. To improve reliability of an eduID account, it can be linked to an institution. This way, Services know they are dealing with an active student, and know his information is validated by an trusted institution. Linking the eduID to an institution can be done Just-In-Time during login, but also in advance. An institution can send it's users to a special url to create an eduID and link it to the institution in one flow. This is accomplished by using the information contained in the IdP login.

How to activate account linking for your institution:

To be able to validate an eduID by linking it to an institution, the institution needs to connect the eduID Account Linking Service to their IdP. This can be requested on the SURFconext IdP dashboard : https://dashboard.surfconext.nl/apps/8345/oidc10_rp/about

How to let end users link accounts:

Go to https://mijn.eduid.nl/create-from-institution

The user wil be asked to log in to his home institution to create a new eduID, or log in to an existing one

The user will log on to his institution (Or continue directly when using Single Sign On)

After logging in, the user is asked for a private email-account

After confirming hit personal-email by opening the link in his email, the eduID account is created. The eduID is directly validated by the institution.
