1. Zodra het netwerk niet toegankelijk is, zijn je bestanden niet beschikbaar. Het voordeel van SURFdrive is juist dat bestanden aanwezig zijn, ook wanneer er geen netwerkverbinding is.
2. Lokale wijzigingen worden niet altijd opgemerkt, waardoor deze wijzigingen niet naar de server worden gesynchroniseerd. Dit heeft er mee te maken dat in bepaalde omgevingen geen zogenaamde 'filesystem events/filesystem handlers' van de netwerkschijf komen. 

In some cases users or educational institutions decide to sync to a location on a network drive. This is not impossible, but SURFdrive discourages this choice and we can only offer limited support. This is due to the following issues:

1. When you cannot reach the network, your files are unavailable. One of the benefits of SURFdrive is precisely the availability of your files locally even when there is no network connection. 
2. Local updates aren't always noticed, which means this updates won't be synchronized to the server. This is a result of the problem that some network environments don't send 'filesystem events/filesystem handlers'

Workaround

Voor het tweede probleem is er een workaround door geforceerd te synchroniseren. Hiervoor moet het bestand surfdrive.cfg worden aangepast.

For the second issue the workaround is to force syncing. To do this the surfdrive.cfg file must be adapted.

Dit staat standaard op de volgende locatie / This file is by default in the following location:
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\SURFdrive\surfdrive.cfg

Dit moet erin gezet worden / This should be added:
[SURFdrive]
remotePollInterval=30000
forceSyncInterval=40000
fullLocalDiscoveryInterval=120000
notificationRefreshInterval=120000

Oplossing

We adviseren dus om geen gebruik te maken van de netwerkschijf. Als er lokaal weinig ruimte beschikbaar is, kun je er ook voor kiezen slechts een gedeelte naar je lokale werk-pc te synchroniseren. Binnen de SURFdrive client kunnen je mappen uitvinken. Deze mappen blijven vervolgens in de web-interface (en op eventuele andere desktops) staan, maar zijn niet langer aanwezig op je werk-pc.We recommended to not make use of the network drive for syncing. If there is not enough local space, you can also choose to sync only a part of your files to you local work desktop. Within the SURFdrive client you are able to deselect folders. These folders will remain in the web-interface (and potentially other desktops) but will no longer be on your work desktop.
