SURFconext is the service for federation identity management for higher education and research in the Netherlands. SURFconext offers a generic way to process authentication and authorization between your organization (Service Provider) and Identity Providers.
SURFconext simplifies group management
SURFconext is dé service voor federatief identiteitsmanagement voor hoger onderwijs en onderzoek in Nederland. SURFconext biedt een generieke manier voor het verwerken van authenticatie en autorisatie tussen jouw organisatie (Identity Provider) en aanbieders van clouddiensten (Service Providers)
SURFconext vergemakkelijkt bovendien centraal groepmanagement en het koppelen van meerdere clouddiensten met je organisatie. In de afbeelding zie je de hub- en spoke-setup van SURFconext.
Je ziet hierin dat je de studenten, docenten en onderzoekers van jouw organisatie met hun eigen instellingsaccount een Single Sign On-toegang kunt geven tot de verschillende diensten van SURFconext. Ook kun je zien dat je organisatie slechts 1 (technische) koppeling hoeft te maken met SURFconext, zodat je niet voor elke dienst apart een maatwerkkoppeling hoeft te implementeren. Hierna kun je kiezen uit alle Service Providers die ook op SURFconext zijn aangesloten.
Ook kan jouw organisatie zelf diensten aanbieden via SURFconext, door ook als Service Provider op te treden. Heb je bijvoorbeeld een handige roosterapplicatie ontwikkeld, of een tool om onderzoeksdata mee te delen, en wil je die beschikbaar maken voor andere organisaties binnen SURFconext? Het gebruik van SURFconext is niet gelimiteerd tot te landsgrenzen. Door aan te sluiten op SURFconext zet je de deur open voor wereldwijde diensten en internationale samenwerking!

In order to connect a service to SURFconext a number of steps have to be taken. A test connection can be established before any agreement is in place. For this purpose we provide a dedicated test environment. The first section below shows how to connect your service to this test environment. Before your service can be connected to the SURFconext production environment, a legal agreement has to be established. The second section below links to the conditions that are applicable to service providers. In addition, it provides the entries to establish a partnership with SURFmarket for reselling of your service. To reduce the lead time, we advise you to approach the technical and legal steps as a parallel process.
