Introduction

This is the home of the DRIVER guidelines wiki space. Additional information and translations of the Guidelines are available from the DRIVER website.

DRIVER stands for Digital Repository Infrastructure Vision for European Research. The guidelines have been created in order to solve many problems and questions repository managers came across when installing and configuring their repositories. For every issue there are thousands of solutions, resulting in many different interpretations the way the content is exposed.
The effect of this is that the content on a global scale is not that Open Accessible as been expected on the local level, because service providers have to tweak the harvest procedure for every single repository making the effort outweighting the benefits.
To ease the pain for creating interoperable repositories on a European and global scale, these DRIVERguidelines have been created by experts and repository managers all over Europe; see the Acknowledgements.

The form of a wiki has been chosen for two reasons:

  1. to enables and engage interaction with the repository community in lively discussion on the wiki pages to increase outcome for best practices.
  2. to create weblinks to specific areas of the DRIVER Guidelines that can be used in an e-mail and can be used by the validator that points to a specific area in the DRIVER Guidelines then the output of a  repository failed the test of a validation rule.
